According to police and media reports at least two individuals sustained injuries and one individual tragically lost their life in a car accident. Reports indicated that a 34-year-old woman driving a 2009 Toyota SUV driving southbound on Martin Luther King Drive near Girard Avenue overpass lost control of her vehicle, and ended up directly in northbound traffic where her vehicle collided head-on into a 2005 Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 was being driven by another 34-year-old man, and he had his 40-year-old wife as a passenger in the vehicle.
The drivers of both the vehicles and passenger were transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The 34-year-old female driver of the Toyota SUV who allegedly lost control of her vehicle and crossed over into the opposite lane was reportedly in critical condition with head injuries. The other 34-year-old male driver of the RAV4, according to police familiar with the car accident, also suffered head injuries but the extent of his injuries and condition were not immediately known. Sadly, the 34-year-old man’s wife was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police are still investigating and looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
For the families of those involved in the accident, the time immediately following such an event is difficult, anxiety ridden and a trying time. Most families may have more questions than answers and may not know what do. The main focus generally is on recovery for those injured and coming to terms with those who have lost their life.
Though those who have lost a loved one in a car accident or those who are in the process of recovering may not be familiar with personal injury legal options, it is important to first and foremost focus on recovery, it may also be helpful to contact a Philadelphia car accident attorney to find out what one’s legal options, if any, are.
